Artist Bio
I’m Dora Anderson, a ceramic artist born and based in Cincinnati, Ohio. After taking Ceramics I in college at Southern State Community College- I was hooked. Since then, I’ve attended many workshops and classes consistently through the years to grow my abilities and visions further within my medium of clay. My recent achievements include a regional gallery exhibit at Queen City Clay in the summer of 2023, ‘Fly over Focus’ and a local gallery art exhibit in the Bridal District of Reading at the Reading Community Arts Center that same summer, ‘Cheers to Art’- a celebration of Cincinnati artists. Earlier achievements include ‘Student Best in Show’-Southern State Community College and Photo of the Year- ‘Ash Cave-Hocking Hills Logan, Ohio’- Oregon State University College of Forestry. I was also a founding member of the Appalachian Gateway Guild, Treasurer 2013-2014.
I intend to make this life experience as meaningful as possible and to never give up pursuing things that bring a sense of joy, happiness, accomplishment, and calm or retreat within a hurried society. My love for gardening, sunshine, living life and nature inspire my carved and underglaze surface designs in my stoneware and alternative firing work. I love what I do and will continue creating and sharing what I’ve learned with those who are interested in my work and journey.
You can find me assisting with class field trips and open wheel events, helping to guide others through their first introduction to clay at Queen City Clay. If I’m not playing in my community or garage studio, you will find me sipping on coffee or tea in my small, urban garden at home- tending to a variety of marigolds, peppers, tomatoes, basil, sage and anything else I can fit into raised beds. I enjoy spending my time in the sunshine, watching the pollinators dance from bloom-to-bloom. I can also be found refueling in nature at state parks hiking and camping with my family, our dachshund- Lulu, and our Best-Cat-Ever- Clyde.
